I really liked this post, Fred! The idea of a staycation definitely has a lot going for it, especially the part about introverts needing to recharge. I’m a total introvert myself and my social battery drains fast, so the thought of staying in a familiar, low-pressure environment really resonates with me.
That said, I’ve found that staycations can be a little tricky when you work from home like I do. It’s hard to mentally separate “relax” mode from “work” mode when your office is just a room away – and being a workaholic, I’ll tend to gravitate to the office and hop on the computer. Still, I appreciated your points about sleeping in your own bed and not needing to board pets, those are real perks.
One part I might push back on just a bit is the “no travel time” thing. I get it, especially for families, but for me, I actually like the travel part. Sometimes life really is about the journey and not just the destination. I don’t have kids, so I haven’t had to wrangle little ones in airports or long car rides, which definitely changes the experience! For me, the trip itself can be just as refreshing as the arrival, so I try not to rush it, but enjoy the travels. This also might be different for me having my pilots license and having owned my own airplanes to make the travel a really unique adventure, so I count myself lucky there.
Great post as always, thanks for sharing this!
Thanks so much for this thoughtful comment Leonard! I really appreciate your perspective, especially as someone who works from home and knows the challenge of switching off. That mental divide can definitely blur. And you’re absolutely right, for some people, the journey is a big part of the joy. With your pilot’s license and travel setup, I can see how the experience would be something special!
Glad the post still resonated, especially around the introvert-friendly side of staycations. Thanks again for reading and sharing—really enjoyed your insights!
